Benjamin D. Reese

Over the last 40 years, Dr. Benjamin D. Reese, Jr. has consulted to numerous community organizations, corporations, colleges and universities, hospitals, etc. in the areas of race relations, diversity, conflict resolution, cross-cultural communication and organizational change. In addition, he has made presentations at a number of international conferences. His current international work involves the training of lay counselors in Haiti to effectively respond to individuals suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, has served as director of a large community mental health center, founded the Institute for the Study of Culture and Ethnicity in New York City, worked as the Ombudsperson for the Rockefeller Foundation, and represented the International Council of Psychologists and the World Federation for Mental Health at the United Nations.
He is currently the Vice President for Institutional Equity for Duke University and the Duke University Health System. He has responsibility for diversity and inclusion, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity and harassment and discrimination prevention and complaint handling. He also holds an appointment in the Department of Community and Family Medicine.
