Shams Asadi
Vice-Independent Officer for Occupational Safety and Health, City of Vienna
Shams Asadi, is the Vice-Independent Officer for Occupational Safety and Health of the City of Vienna. The Vienna Anti-Discrimination Office and its team are also Co-Coordina- ted by the Independent Officer, whose work is not subject to outside directions. Coun- selling and advice for disadvantaged individuals or groups who are subject to discrimi- nation, mediations, networking, expert assessment and research studies are some of the main duties of this office.
Shams is the former head of the unit “Special & International Projects” in the Municipal Department for Urban Development and Urban Planning. Urban economy, international co-operations with a focus on urban development as well as Diversity & Planning were the application areas of this unit. Providing an interface between the economic and social affairs and in particular dealing with the spatial socio- economic interactions in the city were some scopes of her activities area.
She has been involved in many research studies and international projects on Migration, Gender Main- streaming and Diversity. She was the founder member of the consortium “Migration & Public Spaces” in Vienna. Sham Asadi has many years of practical and academical experience in Urban Regeneration and Urban Studies. She received her degrees from the University of Technology of Vienna and the Middle East Technical University (Ankara).
